IT was a busy weekend for Jersey’s swimmers, with Harry Shalamon reaching a second semi-final.
On Friday night, Shalamon finished fourteenth in the men’s 100m backstroke semi-finals in a time of 56.25sec and he backed that up with a time of 25.85sec in the 50m backstroke semi-finals last night.
‘It was quicker than in the heat this morning which I’m really happy with and I am really proud of myself,’ said Shalamon.
He goes again today in the 100m butterfly and then the 200m backstoke tomorrow which just one aim in mind.
‘I’m just going to try and get a personal best time and do myself proud that way.’
Meanwhile, Lily Scott broke the Jersey record in her women’s 50m freestyle heat, setting a time of 26.95sec, and also finished first in her 50m butterfly heat in a time of 29.05sec, but neither time was fast enough to see her qualify.
In the same events, Gemma Atherley recorded times of 28.76sec and 28.51 respectively.
She also finished sixth in her heat of the women’s 100m backstroke in 1min 4.20sec, matching her entry time for the Games.
Robbie Jones finished first in his heat in the 50m backstroke but was unable to join Shalamon in the semi-finals with his time of 27.7sec. He also competed in the 100m breaststroke, finishing in a time of 1min 4.6sec.
Needless to say the greatest swimmer of all time in the discipline, Adam Peaty, was the only swimmer to record a time south of one minute in the heats.
Also in action was Ollie Brehaut, who recorded times of 2min 0.62sec and 52.52sec in the 200m and 100m-freestyle heats respectively, while Isaac Dodds completed his 400m individual medley heat in a time of 4mins 29.7secs, which was enough to put him on reserve for the final.
Dodds also competed in the men’s 200m butterfly posting a time of 2min 6.41secs.
Jones, Shalamon, Brehaut and Dodds all teamed up to finish their heat in fourth in the 4x100m freestyle relay, one place above neighbours Guernsey, in a time of 3min 33.46sec, which also put them on reserve for the final.
