The Jersey Volleyball Association have improved their beach approach for 2018 as they attempt to boost the sport’s popularity, and organisers have sent out a clear call ahead of Sunday’s season-opener in St Aubin’s Bay.

‘We want people to feel as though they can just come down and play or learn to play and it’s all for free,’ said event promoter Loren Bobus.

The emphasis will be on fun, no side-line coaching – just pure and simple beach volleyball. We’ll be setting up a few courts some for instruction for beginners and others for playing fun matches

‘You don’t have to book a court, hire any equipment or invest in any expensive gear to play, it really is that simple.

‘We don’t want people feeling too intimidated to come down onto the beach and ask to play. Perhaps there’s a group of you and you just want to borrow a net and ball, or perhaps you’re on your own and you fancy a fun team sport to play in the summer.

‘We’d love to encourage new players because beach volleyball really is one of the coolest sports you’ll ever play. It’s so much fun and even though we don’t have Caribbean summer weather all of the time you can still have a game.

‘Everyday is an open day in beach volleyball.’

She added: ‘Recently Jersey beach volleyball has gone through a bit of a transformation – we’ve re-branded, designed new logos, got a new social media outreach, new attitudes with fresh ideas and it’s all very exciting.

‘The emphasis will be on fun, no side line coaching – just pure and simple beach volleyball. We’ll be setting up a few courts some for instruction for beginners and others for playing fun matches.’

The open day is set to run from 11 am-4 pm. For more information on beach volleyball sessions, which also run on Wednesday evenings, search Jersey Beach Volleyball on Facebook.
