The Jersey 2015 100-metre bronze medallist chipped a tooth and grazed both knees in the heats of the 60m after dipping for the line, but showed little sign of being hampered in the latter stages – running within 0.01 seconds of his personal best.
Williams, who won silver at the South of England Championships last month, clocked 6.94 sec in the semi-final before being named the fifth fastest U20 in the country with a time of 6.95 sec in the final.
‘I fell face first into the barrier after dipping for the finish line in the heats, getting massive friction burns on my knees,’ he said. ‘I was pretty pleased to come back from that.
Williams was joined in Sheffield by long jumper Sam Stenhouse, who improved his personal best by eight centimetres to claim seventh overall with a leap of 6.84m.
