If Le Cornu’s success was spectacular, then Elliot Dorey’s race to silver could only be described as sensational, although the 19-year-old was clearly disappointed not to take gold.

Jersey had another silver success at the start of the meeting in the 3,000m steeplechase when 17-year-old Daniel Robinson, running for only the third time in the event, took up the front-running with experienced steeplechaser Alan Corlett of the Isle of Man.
