It is the most gold medals brought home by any Jersey competitor in the six years Jersey have been involved and bodes well for her appearence at the Island Games at the end of the month.

On Saturday – the last day of competition – Johnson-Deeley added the 800m and 3,000m titles to the 1,500m she won on Friday. ‘It was a magnificent performance from a dedicated young lady,’ said coach Andrew Winnie.

The Lloyds TSB Jersey team, made up of 30 youngsters, brought home eight medals overall and placed 11th overall out of the 18 islands taking part.

Elliott Dorey rounded off a good games with a silver in the 800m and Shadine Duquemin also took silver in the shotput, adding to the gold she won in the discus on the first day of competition. And Molly Jéhan added to the athletics tally with a bronze in the 400 metres hurdles. Athletics finished ninth of the 13 islands competing.

Swimming

In swimming there was another Jersey medal, bronze for Natasha Stuttard in the 200 individual medley. Coach Kieron Bowbrick felt that despite the tightly packed schedule,the organisation was very good. Jersey girls finished in eight place out of the 13 islands involved.

Sailing

Laurence Carter from four races was the best placed of the four Jersey Sailors with 16th overall in the boys event of 24 yachts. Paul myatt was 21st. In the girls’ section, Elizabeth Ellison was 17th, Lily Carter 20th from 23. Sailing was held over two days, was a very high standard and wind conditions, according to team manager David Carter, were better on Day 1.

Table-tennis

Josh Band reached the quarter final stage of the individual table-tennis losing to the number 2 seed and winner of the event from Madeira. Jersey finished seventh overall of the 11 islands and coach Craig Gascoyne felt all his team had done well in tough competition, especially as there had been little preparation time available.

Gymnastics

Gymnast Lisa Day reached the finals of the vault competition placing sixth of the nine qualifiers and without an entry in the boys’ event the team did well to achieve a ninth place out of ten islands. Coach Arthur Falle considered the standard to be exceptionally high over the two days.
