AFTER bringing the pop-up sauna concept to Jersey, an entrepreneur is seeking to branch out into DIY pet-washing.
Cole McLean, who set up Sauna Society in 2023, is planning to bring four self-service machines to the Island so that dog owners can give their hounds a good wash.
The idea comes amid a continued rise in dog ownership in Jersey, with the Island’s total canine population now estimated to be above 10,000.
“It’s something I’ve seen used successfully elsewhere and think would work really well here,” Mr McLean said. “Some people who have dogs don’t have suitable facilities to wash them at home without making a mess, and they will be able to do the job away from home, and for a lot less than you’d pay at a salon.
“If a dog is salty and sandy after a run on the beach, or it’s been walked along a muddy path, it can be washed and dried before it gets back home.”

The machines are likely to be card-operated, with a basic ten-minute period of access costing around £9 and further time, or grooming accessories such as shampoo, available as add-ons.
Mr McLean said he was currently discussing potential locations and how the machines would operate with Jersey Property Holdings.
“I’m looking at a range of locations, including beach-side spots, with good access and adjacent parking,” he said. “There’s quite a lot of preparatory work that’s needed, but I’ve had some good discussions with Property Holdings and am hoping we can get everything sorted.”
The intention is that once the proposed locations are finalised, planning applications will be submitted ahead of the arrival of the machines later in the summer.
