THE Jersey Opera House is looking to start a “new chapter” following the theatre’s multi-million-pound investment by recruiting a new chair for its board.
The organisation is looking for someone who can guide the next act and show strong leadership at a “pivotal moment” for the theatre.
The successful candidate will work closely with the board and executive team to support the long-term strategy, strengthen governance and enable the continued growth of a big piece of Jersey’s culture.
According to the advertisement for the role, the right person ought to have strong experience, financial and governance understanding, and be passionate about theatre and the arts and how important they are to the community.
It comes after multiple senior members left the board in the months before and after the reopening of the theatre last autumn. The Opera House was closed for more than five years as a result of the pandemic and the refurbishment.
Previous interim chair Dave Chalk and interim director Andy Eagle resigned last April, while Cyril Whelan left the organisation last month after 13 years of service for the board.
One week following his departure, non-executive director Bruno Santos-Costa also made the decision to step down from the role.
Cassidy Mason and Vijay Khakhria were appointed last summer as non-executive directors, for a period of three years. Former Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore also joined the board, while lawyer Laura Robertson was appointed as interim chair.
The application process is due to close on 8 April 2026.
