POLICE are to begin using a new £15,000 breath-testing machine to investigate suspected drink-driving offences.

The Lion Intoxilyzer 9000UK has been approved by the Home Affairs Minister to replace the ageing Intoxilyzer 5000, which has been in service for decades and is becoming harder to maintain due to a lack of spare parts.

The new device, costing £14,808 including training and maintenance, was purchased through the police capital budget and arrived in Jersey in December. It received UK Home Office approval for evidential breath testing in 2025.
