JERSEY Dairy has moved to reassure Islanders after questions were raised on social media about the shelf life of its milk.

The dairy said it had received queries asking why its milk appeared to be lasting longer than some shoppers expected.

In a statement, the company said freshness was the result of “quality and hygiene from grass to glass”.

It highlighted that Jersey cows naturally produce creamy, nutrient-rich milk and that the dairy holds a BRCGS Grade AA accreditation, demonstrating it meets the highest food safety and quality standards.

Jersey Dairy said: “Modern pasteurisation and excellent hygiene keep milk fresh, and our 14-day shelf life sits comfortably within the normal 12-to-21 day range for pasteurised milk.”

According to the dairy, improvements across the production chain have helped extend freshness in recent years. These include well-managed farms, rapid cooling after milking, robust temperature control during storage and transport, efficient pasteurisation processes, and high standards in filling and packaging.

Jersey Dairy also pointed to the performance of its long-life milk, which it said has a 12-month shelf life compared with the more usual nine months, describing this as further evidence of the “exceptional quality” of Jersey milk.
