JERSEY’S most famous detective is heading across the Atlantic following a deal that will see the first two seasons of the new Bergerac launched on PBS in the United States this year.

Executive producer Brian Constantine described the acquisition by PBS Distribution, which was negotiated by Banijay Rights, as an “extraordinary moment” for those behind the revamped detective drama.

It follows previously announced international sales to a raft of broadcasters, including WOWOW in Japan, NPO in the Netherlands, VRT in Belgium, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, BBC First in Poland, TVNZ in New Zealand and ABC in Australia.

The first series drew in 2.4 million viewers across U and U&DRAMA in 2025, while the second season is due to air sometime this spring.

Germaine Sweet, head of content acquisition and sales for PBS Distribution, said that: “This smart re-imagining of the iconic detective series is sure to capture the attention of audiences in the US.”

Mr Constantine said: “To see Bergerac find a home on PBS is not only a testament to the hard work and passion of our cast and crew, but also a celebration of the enduring global appetite for distinctive British storytelling.”

He continued: “Following in the footsteps of greats like Downton Abbey, this sale underscores the strength of our creative vision and the timeless appeal of compelling, character-driven drama.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to share Bergerac with audiences across America.”

Matt Creasey, an executive vice-president at Banijay Rights, said that Bergerac “is destined to be huge draw for US audiences”.

He continued: “We couldn’t be more pleased with this deal.

“Featuring Jim Bergerac’s iconic Triumph Roadster car and set against the stunning backdrop of Jersey, this is a series that continues to generate worldwide attention as we head into next week’s London TV Screenings.”

A premiere screening for the new season will be held in Jersey on 16 March at the Opera House, followed by a drinks reception at the Grand Hotel.

In partnership with Westward Studios, the JEP is giving away two free tickets to the red-carpet event – which will be attended by cast members.
