A FIVE-bedroom nursing and complex needs facility being built in Trinity – which will enhance Les Amis’ ability to care for those it supports – is “still on track” to open next summer, according to the charity’s managing director.

The update from Shaun Findlay comes six months after construction began on the project, which will provide higher nursing care for Islanders with learning disabilities who have additional needs due to age or dementia.

Les Amis raised £1 million to buy the property in Rue de Bechet and a further £2.5 million to ensure the development can be completed.

Mr Findlay said it was “still on track” to be opened in August next year.

Noting that the “core funding” had been secured, he also said that the charity was confident the bespoke development would “come in on target”.

Mr Findlay added: “We have been fundraising smaller amounts for the kit-out of the property, making sure all the rooms have all the appropriate equipment that wouldn’t be part of the build.

“As we stand, we are in a comfortable position but we will continue to fundraise – because the maintenance and the running cost of the building will then become a cost to the charity when the provision is open and up and running.”

Mr Findlay had previously explained that the new facility will enable Les Amis to continue to care for the Islanders it looks after when their nursing needs become more complex

This includes end-of-life care.

“This provision will enable us to support people right up to that final day, and make sure that their quality of care is maintained all the way to the end.”
