HUNDREDS of homemade, sparkly Christmas angels are now suspended from the rafters of St Brelade’s Parish Church after a community crafting appeal took flight.

Following a call for “paper plate angels”, Islanders of all ages set to work producing seraphim in every size and style imaginable.

Designs were varied, with all “adorned with spectacular decorations including sequins, glitter, tinsel, foil and feathers”, the Reverend Dr Sarah McClelland, explained.

“Many organisations and groups, including Maison St Brelade, all our parish schools, Guides, Rainbows, Beavers and Cubs as well as our congregation and individuals from across the Island have contributed,” she added.

The designs, she noted, include several football strips – and there are even a couple modelled on the Reverend herself.

A separate group of volunteers then spent hours attaching thread to each angel so they could be suspended above the aisles and transept.

The angels come in all shapes, sizes and forms.

Verger Julian Le Pavoux then installed the heavenly host high in the church for the festive season.

“The angels are now airborne and on display in St Brelade’s Church,” Revd McClelland said.

“Islanders and visitors are invited to view them from Monday 8 December until the New Year.”

The installation forms part of the church’s Christmas celebrations and will remain in place throughout the holiday period.
