AROUND £675,000 worth of public funding is forecast to be provided by the government for apprenticeships during 2025, it has been confirmed.

Answering a written question from Deputy Inna Gardiner, Education Minister Rob Ward spelled out the level of support from public funds for apprenticeships.

Deputy Ward said the previous limit of £1,600 per individual had been increased in line with inflation to a maximum of £1,852.

The minister said that up to October this year there had been 332 subsidised apprenticeships at Highlands College, compared with 361 for the whole of 2024. For other training providers the figures were 38 so far this year and 34 for 2024.

Every apprentice who requested the subsidy and met the critieria was successfully funded, he added.

The total amount forecast to be spent across 2025 was £233,000 for electrical apprenticeships and £443,000 for standard cases – this compared with respective figures of £193,000 and £396,000 in 2024.
