LIBERTY Wharf has been sold to a Jersey-based property company which intends to create “new reasons to visit” the area.
The historic public asset, a former abattoir that was turned into a shopping centre, had been bought by Daisy Hill Real Estates having previously been run by lease owners SandpiperCI since 2018.
Daisy Hill was the owner of the War Tunnels for over six decades before the complex was bought by Trevellyan Operations in 2025.
The firm’s director Phil Dawes said that the company had been focused on developing “a clear vision and long-term strategy” for Liberty Wharf since acquiring the site earlier this year.
He described the space as “an important gateway” connecting the Waterfront with town’s retail, business and visitor areas.
“We believe Liberty Wharf has significant potential and an important role to play in the continued evolution of the town centre,” Mr Dawes continued.
“Over recent months, we have been working with local stakeholders and specialist advisers from Jersey and the UK to explore how Liberty Wharf can evolve as a distinctive mixed-use destination.”
He noted that this work was in “a formative stage”, but added that “there is real enthusiasm about the opportunity to make more of this important location and strengthen its contribution to St Helier”.
“Liberty Wharf already has many excellent businesses and operators, and they will be an important part of its future,” he said.
“Our ambition is to build on what works today while introducing new reasons to visit, spend time and return to create a destination that reflects and celebrates modern Island life and has relevance throughout the year.”
Mr Dawes highlighted that this was a “long-term project” and that a “considered approach” was being taken, with further updates to be shared as the work progresses.
“For now, we are genuinely excited about Liberty Wharf’s potential and the positive contribution it can make to St Helier and the wider Island in the years ahead.”
