A MAN was rescued from the bottom of a cliff near Grosnez Castle last night following a complex operation involving firefighters, Coastguard teams and a UK helicopter.
Emergency services were called shortly before 7pm after reports that the man had fallen while climbing in the area.
Firefighters located him in difficult terrain at the bottom of a cliff-face gully and provided immediate medical attention.
But the casualty’s location, the steep terrain and the distance to safety meant a specialist rescue operation was required.
Jersey Coastguard requested a UK helicopter to assist with extracting the man, while firefighters began using specialist rope-rescue equipment to move him towards safety.
Crews were eventually able to bring the casualty up the cliff themselves, with the helicopter providing additional illumination as darkness fell.
The operation lasted more than three hours before the man was handed over to paramedics and taken to hospital.
He suffered injuries during the fall and rescue but is understood to be in a “stable condition”.
Jersey Coastguard, the States police, Ambulance Service, Air Rescue Drone Team and helicopter personnel were also involved.
Station Manager Ryan Hall praised the “experience and professionalism” of crews and the collaboration between the emergency services.
