CHILDREN’S mental health services are due to relocate into a new home next year.
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) will move into Bermuda House on Green Street from September 2026 when the lease for Liberte House runs out.
The Infrastructure Minister this week signed a ministerial decision approving the renewal of the public’s lease for Bermuda House until 2036.
“There is a risk that the service cannot function after September 2026 without adequate facilities,” according to a report accompanying the decision.
The latest CAMHS annual report, published in March, said it was “great” that there were plans for the service to move to a new building.
It said: “This new space will be bigger, have more office and clinic space, and will not be shared with other teams.
“Young people explained that Liberte House is on the route to local schools, and so they can sometimes feel uncomfortable if their peers see them go into the building.
“Therefore, moving the clinic elsewhere could be beneficial in protecting the privacy of young people who access the service.”
Meanwhile, an inspection of CAMHS by the Jersey Care Commission raised concerns around aspects of the current facility at Liberte House.
The first-floor balcony, which provides an elevated view of the floor below, was “seen as a risk by service users and family members”.
