A REPLACEMENT headline author has been revealed for the Jersey Festival of Words following an unexpected cancellation.
Award-winning novelist Kate Mosse CBE has been added to the line-up for the literary festival – which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and is set to be held from 19 to 28 September.
Ms Mosse, whose works also include plays, essays and non-fiction, will fill the slot of TV presenter and acid attack victim Katie Piper who had to pull out of the appearance due to “unforeseen circumstances”, festival organisers have said.
Much of Ms Mosse’s literary achievements revolve around the role of women in history. She is best known for her 2005 novel Labyrinth and the subsequent volumes in her Languedoc Trilogy and Joubert Family Chronicles.
The author and broadcaster was also the founder and director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, which has recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and she also launched the global Woman in History campaign.
Her latest book is titled Feminist History for Every Day of the Year.
Ahead of her visit, fellow best-selling author and festival patron Peter James said Ms Mosse is a “brilliant and immensely engaging public speaker”.
“She has always been generously supportive of other authors and a true champion of female writers. I have known Kate for many years and I can guarantee that anyone who comes to listen to her is in for a real treat,” Mr James added.
Ms Mosse will take to the stage with festival chair Lucy Cotter at the Freedom Centre on Saturday 27 September at 2pm. The event is sponsored by Oakglen Wealth.
Other headliners at the festival include Slow Horses author Mick Herron, the ‘Twitter Poet Laureate’ Brian Bilston, The Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler and comedian Helen Lederer.
