TWO new appointments have been made to the board of the Jersey Opera House.
The theatre has announced Cassidy Mason and Vijay Khakhria will take on the voluntary non-executive director roles for an initial three-year term.
It comes at a pivotal time for the venue, which is gearing up to fully reopen in the autumn after a five-year closure and major renovation thanks to a £12.7 million government grant.
Ms Mason and Mr Khakhria join former Chief Minister Kristina Moore as the sole remaining non-executive director on the board, bringing experience in a variety of sectors between them, including finance, hospitality, entertainment, and governance.
Laura Robertson, a lawyer and interim chair of the 125-year-old venue, was appointed in June following the departures of Cyril Whelan, Dave Chalk, and non-executive director Bruno Santos-Costa. Ryan Williams stepped up as Mrs Robertson’s deputy.
No replacement has yet been announced for interim director Andy Eagle, who resigned suddenly in March. The theatre is, however, currently advertising for a new chief executive.
Of the new appointments, Mrs Robertson said Ms Mason and Mr Khakhria’s “expertise and passion for the arts will be invaluable in guiding the charity forward”.
“[The appointments] make an exciting step forward in our governance and strategic planning,” she added.
