A JERSEY-BORN actor is due to feature in an upcoming Hollywood action film alongside a star-studded cast including Idris Elba, Jared Leto and Alison Brie.
James Wilkinson will appear as superhero ‘MekaNeck’ in the silver screen live-action remake of Mattel’s ‘Masters of the Universe’ franchise.
The sci-fi film is being directed by Academy Award nominee director Travis Knight, and is due for release in June 2026.
James’ theatrical roots stem from Jersey’s local arts scene.
He has frequented the Jersey Arts Centre and Opera House stages, and performed with the Samares Players.
James attended Mont Nicolle and Les Quennevais schools, before leaving the island at the age of 16 to go to Bird College of Performing Arts in London.
This led him to an international acting career, which later turned into stunt performing.
James spent six years honing his high-octane craft in Singapore and China after gaining a contract with Universal Studios.
He returned to the UK and last year auditioned for the part of Mattel’s 1980s animated superhero ‘MekaNeck’ – who uses his bionic neck to fight evil.
James told the JEP that securing the role was “surreal”.
“My focus and passion for as long as I can remember, has just been about acting,” he said.
“You put in the hours, both physically and creatively, in the hope of something just like this happening. Seeing it pay off in a project of this scale is utterly wild.”
James, who often returns to Jersey to visit his family, said he is “excited for what the future holds”.
He added: “I know I’ve got a lot of support from my family and friends back home in Jersey, and no doubt I’ll see a lot of them in the Trafalgar next time I’m over.”
