CONSTRUCTION of the Island’s new acute hospital facility at Overdale is “very unlikely” to start in the third quarter of this year, according to the Health Minister.
Deputy Tom Binet told the States this week that due to delays in the procurement process to secure a principal contractor, construction work was likely to be pushed back to the end of the year.
The first spades were planned to be in the ground in quarter-three with the procurement process commencing in August last year.
However, responding to a question lodged by Deputy Jonathan Renouf, Deputy Binet said the plans “may be running a little bit behind”.
He said he was hoping the main contract for the £710 million facility would be signed in the autumn with construction work to follow.
“Depending on that [a signed contract], that will determine when work can start with a principal contractor,” Deputy Binet said.
“It is very unlikely to be in quarter three, more likely quarter-four,” he added.
