A FOOD charity is expecting to serve thousands of nutritious meals to children and families in need during the Easter holidays.
Caring Cooks of Jersey will plate up around 2,000 meals over the next two weeks at Haute Vallée School as part of its “Holiday Hunger” programme.
The charity’s Holiday Spud Club has so far served over 7,000 free hot meals during school breaks this current academic year – when free school meals are unavailable – to support children and families who may struggle to afford or cook healthy food.
Every weekday lunchtime during the Easter holidays, Islanders can receive a free hot filled jacket potato from Caring Cook’s “Spud Truck”, which has been sponsored by Ports of Jersey and Rathbones.
The charity also announced in its Easter newsletter that it had begun providing free hot meals in St Clement and La Moye schools during this academic year as part of an expansion of the Island’s school meals programme. The service currently supports five primary and six secondary Island schools to give children access to healthy food.
The Holiday Hunger service is open to all families, with no sign-up needed.
The “Spud Truck” will be serving food from 1pm to 2.30pm every weekday at Haute Vallée until 18 April.
