FIVE years after the start of lockdown restrictions in Jersey caused by the global pandemic, health officials have issued a reminder that the Covid-19 virus may still have a serious effect on older Islanders and those who are immunosuppressed.
Spring booster vaccination will be available to those aged 75 or over, care home residents and the immunosuppressed throughout April, May and June, it has been announced.
The free jabs will be delivered by GP surgeries, with primary care representative Dr Bryony Perchard confirmed that bookings would open from Tuesday 1 April.
She said: “While most people who get Covid will have a mild illness, those in older age groups and with certain health conditions are at a higher risk of developing serious illness and being hospitalised.
“Vaccination not only reduces the chances of the getting ill, but also makes any infection less unpleasant – I urge all those eligible to not let their defences fade by booking an appointment.”
