CITIZENS of European Union countries who travel to Jersey via the UK will from next month need to obtain Electronic Travel Authorisation to do so.
Before Brexit, EU citizens were free to travel through Britain to the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, but from 2 April an ETA will be required.
They cost £10 and are required by each traveller, including babies and children. The ETA is not a physical device but is linked to passports and can be read when they are checked at the UK border.
An ETA is valid for two years or until the holder’s passport expires – whichever is sooner.
At present only EU citizens entering Jersey from the UK will need one. But from the autumn those travelling directly to the Island, such as day trippers from St Malo, will also need an ETA.
They can be found by entering ETA on gov.uk or from an app store.
