ISLANDERS helped mark the return of Jersey’s most famous detective at the local première of the new Bergerac TV series ahead of the show’s launch later this week.

The red-carpet event took place at Cineworld yesterday afternoon and was attended by a number of cast members, including Irish actor Damien Molony, who has taken on the lead role of Jim Bergerac.

The première was held in celebration of the new six-episode Bergerac series, which is expected to offer a “contemporary twist” on the popular detective drama of the same name that starred John Nettles and ran on the BBC between 1981 and 1991.

Commissioned by BBC-owned broadcaster UKTV, it is due to launch on U and U&DRAMA this Thursday.

Speaking to the JEP at yesterday’s première, Mr Molony said: “It just feels lovely to be able to share the first episode with Jersey before the rest of the world gets to see it on Thursday.
“I love coming back here, I really love being in Jersey.”

Executive producer Brian Constantine said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to celebrate the return of Jersey’s most famous detective with Islanders, cast and crew ahead of the launch of the new series later this week.

“Bergerac is, at its core, a Jersey show and we are grateful to all of the sponsors who made this première possible: Apex Group, Lloyds Bank International, Marbral Advisory, Appleby, Ravenscroft, Fine and Country, and the Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa.”

He added: “It was a special moment to watch Islanders of all ages interact with cast members alongside the red carpet. I’m incredibly proud of everyone who has played a part in bringing the show forward and I hope as many people as possible will watch it.”
