JERSEY’S only fully vegan restaurant is set to close at the end of the month – just one year after it reopened under new ownership.

The Sinful Vegan was first launched in 2018 by Clarissa Negro to tackle the lack of vegan options available in Jersey.

However, she was forced to step back from the business “with enormous sadness” due to poor health in September 2022.

After being closed for four months, the restaurant reopened at the start of 2023 with chef Michael Benest at the helm.

Despite keeping many aspects of Clarissa’s original menu, Michael was also keen to transform the plant-based café into “more of an eatery” on Friday and Saturday nights.

Since then, the Sinful Vegan has hosted themed evenings – including a Sri Lankan, Thai and Mexican nights.

However, almost exactly one year after reopening, a social-media post announced that the business would be permanently closing its doors on 29 February.

The owners have not revealed the reasons behind the closure, but many people expressed their sadness on social media.

“I’m not a vegan but nonetheless very sorry to hear this,” wrote one Islander.

Another added: “So sad. Another healthy option gone.

“Thank you for your great food and good luck for the future.”
