JERSEY Hospice Care has opened registration for its annual Christmas-tree collection and recycling service.

Volunteers will collect trees from the homes of those who have signed up for a minimum donation of £15.

The trees will be taken to the green-waste team at La Collette, where they will be processed into a soil improving substance for use in farms and gardens.

The scheme was first launched in 2005 and has become a successful annual fundraiser for Jersey Hospice Care.

Scott Douglas, the charity’s events officer, said: “It’s a hassle-free way for people to make sure their tree is properly recycled, reduce car emissions and help raise valuable funds for Jersey Hospice.

“We are so grateful to all our volunteers and supporters, including individuals and businesses, who continue to support us with the collection service and help make it possible.”

Collections will take place on 3 and 4 January for businesses in St Helier, and 6 and 8 January for households and firms in other parishes.

Businesses are asked to sign up to the scheme by 2pm on 2 January and households by 8am on 4 January at trees.jerseyhospicecare.com.

Organisers are also looking for volunteers with vans to help collect and transport the trees. Anyone who is interested can sign up via Jersey Hospice’s website: jerseyhospicecare.com.
