THREE benches have been placed at the memorial site on Mount Bingham for those killed in the Pier Road explosion.

Nine people died when the three-storey Haut du Mont apartment block was destroyed in the early hours of 10 December.

A tenth Islander died in hospital several days later.

The benches, which have been made by the social enterprise Acorn Woodshack, were placed at the site following requests from Islanders.

Detective Superintendent Alison Fossey – the States police’s head of crime – is leading the investigation into the explosion, and is receiving support from the National Crime Agency.
