WARNINGS have been issued for possible flooding along Jersey’s south coast during the high tides on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

The orange warnings – the second-highest level of alert – state that water and debris are likely to be thrown over the sea walls during both high tides and that roads may need to be closed on Wednesday.

The warnings cover the 10.8-metre high tide at 5.51pm on Wednesday and the 11-metre high tide at 6.15am on Thursday.

Unsettled conditions are expected to continue for the rest of the week, but temperatures are expected to rise, reaching 14°C by the weekend.

The UK Met Office, which issues longer range forecasts for the British Isles on its website, says the changeable conditions are likely to last into next week, but drier, cooler conditions could become established in December.

For the period 27 November to 6 December, it states: ‘Sunday is likely to bring a continuation of unsettled conditions, with blustery, occasionally heavy showers and sunny spells, with any showers most frequent in the northwest.

‘Winds perhaps lighter than Saturday initially, but increasingly windy again under around any showers. This theme likely persisting for at least the start of next week, especially in the northwest where it may be wet and windy.

‘In the south and east, however, there is a chance that high pressure may become influential, leading to some drier weather and temperatures perhaps returning closer to normal for the time of the year.

‘The rest of the period remains uncertain, but there is potential for these settled conditions to become more widespread.
