SEVERAL roads were flooded and a number of trees were brought down after heavy rain and strong winds hit the Island this morning.

The road near the main car park of Queen’s Valley Reservoir was among several which were left with standing water following a downpour.

Several trees also came down, including on Mont Les Vaux in St Brelade and Rue L’Aleval in St Peter.

Meanwhile, Jersey Met has issued an orange wind warning for today, with gusts of up to about 50mph expected.

The wind is likely to strengthen further tomorrow night and into Thursday morning, when it could reach gale-force-eight.

The UK Met Office says the unsettled weather is likely to last for the rest of the month.

In its forecast for 19 to 28 November, it states: ‘Saturday is likely to be fine and dry for many, although with cloud and rain spreading eastwards through the day.

‘The strongest winds can be expected in the far northeast of the UK, and perhaps in exposed western parts.

‘Feeling rather cold, with a low risk of overnight patchy frost, especially in the north.

‘Unsettled and changeable conditions are likely to continue for much of the rest of the period, with an active frontal system likely to move in from the west of the country, bringing bands of rain and strong winds, particularly in the west. However, there is a possibility of clearer showery conditions at times.

‘Temperatures expected to be around average for the season.’
