Michelin-starred restaurant fined £650 for failing to show food-safety rating

Michelin-starred Bohemia (pictured) has been fined ?650 after failing to display its food-safety rating between August and December last year

A MICHELIN-STARRED restaurant which failed to show that its food-safety rating had dropped by two stars has been fined £650.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that Bohemia in Green Street was given a three-star ‘Eat Safe Jersey’ rating by Environmental Health officers last year.

But between August and December it did not display notices at each of its entrances stating its Eat Safe rating – as all restaurants are required to by law.

General manager Lawrence Huggler attended court and entered the guilty plea on behalf of the restaurant’s owners, Beaufort Hotel Company Ltd.

Advocate Jordan Gollop, prosecuting, said that in 2017 an inspection gave Bohemia a five-star rating, the highest level.

But on 3 August last year, the inspectors only awarded a two-star rating and told them to rectify the situation.

By September standards had improved enough for them to be awarded three stars, but Advocate Gollop said: ‘The certification must be displayed at all entrances to the restaurant. No certification was displayed. By 21 December the rear door showed the certification but not the front entrance.’

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris told Mr Huggler: ‘You may not be happy about the reassessment, but the regulations are quite clear.’

He said he had the power to impose a fine of up to £1,000, but was imposing a lower one.

According to the Eat Safe website, Bohemia was regraded at five stars earlier this year.
