A SERVICE of prayer and thanksgiving for the life of Her Majesty the Queen was held at the Town Church on Saturday morning.
Led by the Dean of Jersey, the Very Rev Mike Keirle, the service was attended by the Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, and many States Members.

‘Her Majesty formed part of the backdrop of all of our lives for the last 70 years.
‘As I have said on other occasions she was a constant, a stabilising presence, a centre of calm and certainty in the sometimes tumultuous years since she acceded to the throne.
‘We should not underestimate the impact that her absence creates in the psyche of the nation collectively and on each of us individually.’

He said: ‘Over the last nine days since the death of the late Queen, we have all felt that sense of the fragility of life.
‘That the things that we have taken for granted as solid and immovable are in fact subject to change and decay.
‘As we have heard from our Bailiff, so much has been said about her that it is difficult to offer anything that is not repetitious.

‘But, interestingly, common themes emerge from them all – an example in duty, tireless in service, selfless and resilient.
‘King Charles III, and it still sounds strange saying that, referred to his mother as someone who was unequalled in dedication and devotion.
‘We have been reminded this morning of the constancy and steadfast nature of her reign in an ever-changing world providing us with a sense of stability and continuity. A still point in a turning world.’
