KEVIN Lewis has been confirmed as St Saviour Constable following a recount of last month’s election result.

A recount was ordered after it was discovered that the number of ballots cast and the number of votes counted on the night did not match.

Mr Lewis, who was standing unopposed, was elected on 22 June despite a significant amount of support for the ‘none of the above’ option which was introduced for the first time this year.

The election night count was that Mr Lewis received 1,552 votes to NOTA’s 1,142 – making a total of 2,694.

However, the ballot count was 3,158 – a difference of more than 450.

At the Royal Court on Wednesday afternoon, Attorney General Mark Temple said that an ‘extremely thorough’ recount had taken place on Monday with the final results being that Mr Lewis has received 1,554 votes and NOTA 1,158 votes making a total of 2,712 votes cast.

Commissioner Sir Michael Birt, presiding, said: ‘The original figure [for ballots cast] was an erroneous calculation.’
