Deputy Geoff Southern has lodged a vote of censure against the minister, whose department successfully proposed cutting the salaries of newly qualified teachers by up to £8,000.
The move was agreed as part of the Medium Term Financial Plan Addition debate last year.
Deputy Southern argues that Deputy Bryans wrongly said during a States debate last year that newly qualified teachers in Jersey earn £16,000, or 70 per cent, more than their UK counterparts.
He says that the minister inaccurately compared the salaries of Jersey and UK teachers and went on to repeat the error.
By tradition, censure motions are debated at the next sitting following their lodging, so the debate on Deputy Southern’s proposition is due to take place on 14 February.
Three Members must sign a vote of censure proposition in addition to the proposer. Deputy Southern’s has been signed by Deputies Montfort Tadier, Sam Mézec and Mike Higgins.
