High levels of pesticides used by potato growers and the discovery of oxadixyl, a blight treatment last used locally in 2003, have kept the reservoir closed for five months.

Jersey Water said that as pesticide residues have almost disappeared they have started drawing water from Val de La Mare, even though oxadixyl levels are rising due to the seasonal reduction in rainfall, which acts as a natural diluter of the chemical.
