Condor says it hopes the fast ferry will return to service on Saturday.

Sailings of the Liberation were cancelled today after the ferry was impounded by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency following a routine inspection on Tuesday which detected ‘substantial deficiencies’.

In a statement this afternoon Condor said that all the issues flagged by officers from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency have now been ‘rectified’ and that the Liberation was currently undergoing reclassification by the Flag State and Classification Society (DNV-GL).

The Maritime and Coastal Agency are due to re-inspect the ship tomorrow. If the Liberation passes its inspection the Liberation will return to service on Saturday.

Condor says its charter freight ship the MV Arrow is on its way to the Channel Islands so that the Commodore Clipper can ‘concentrate on passenger services’.

Freight services are expected to be unaffected for tomorrow and Saturday.

Meanwhile, the ferry firm said that the contingency plan means that about 70 per cent of its passengers would be able to travel on their expected day ‘albeit many of them on a different ship and/or at a different time’.
