On the eve of a major speech by Prime Minister David Cameron on the Coalition government’s position in the European Union, Senator Bailhache says that Jersey is better off with the UK as a member of the EU.

Europe looks increasingly likely to become a major election issue in the UK, and Mr Cameron is expected to make his long-awaited speech on the country’s membership of the EU on Friday.

Although the Prime Minister has publicly rejected an early ‘in/out’ referendum, he is coming under increasing pressure from both sides of the debate to make his position, and that of his government, clear to the public.
