Sandpiper CI, which owns the Iceland brand, last week announced plans to open a fifth store on the old Big Deals Carpets site by the end of the year. The site is near to the school and the church.

St Peter Constable John Refault said that some people in the parish – which already has a Co-operative and an M&S store – were worried about the large number of visitors an Iceland store would attract.

Mr Refault, along with St Peter Deputy Kristina Moore and the Rector, the Rev Martin Poolton, has called a meeting at 7.30 pm at the parish hall on Tuesday for local residents to air any grievances about the proposal.
