But the survey also showed that the rest of Jersey’s economy is still under pressure and struggling to cope with the difficult economic circumstances.
The business tendency survey conducted by the States Statistics Unit shows that activity in the finance industry picked up significantly in the first three months of the year as compared to the final quarter of 2010.
And the profitability indicator, driven by the larger firms, was positive for the first time in the seven quarters that the survey has been produced. But away from finance the picture was gloomy with about a fifth more firms reporting lower activity than in the last three months of 2010.
Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said it was good news for the wider economy that finance was showing signs of recovery.
