They rejected the outline application purely on Planning grounds and said that they would not be taking into account the current campaign to buy the site so that it could be returned to nature.

The panel, chaired by Trinity Constable John Gallichan, went against the Planning department’s recommendation for approval because they believed that the plans were contrary to policy C5 of the Island Plan 2002.

The Planning panel did not believe that plans for 46 two-bedroom and 27 three-bedroom self-catering chalets created a ‘substantial’ environmental gain.

Because the panel went against assistant planning director Peter Le Gresley’s recommendation, the application will now have to be heard by Environment Minister Freddie Cohen.
