From Ray McCredie.

THE proposal by Deputy Geoff Southern regarding the immediate development of the Town Park is excellent.

It could be paid for by the Stimulus Package fund. It would create employment and enhance a run down area of town, albeit, ten years in the waiting. Bear in mind that millions of pounds have already been taken from the money set aside for the construction of the Town Park.

Deputy Southern will be up against it, in my view, as I do not think that any proposal from a member of the JDA will be taken too seriously. Unfortunately those who know what is best for us are never happier than when they are swimming against the tide of popular opinion.

There has been another proposal to build houses around the perimeter of the Town Park in order to pay for it (although the last time I looked the area is already surrounded by dwelling places). This proposal would reduce the size of the park to that of a tennis court and make a farce of the whole thing.

As ridiculous as it seems, this proposal will have wider appeal to Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf and the Council of Nodding Dogs. Planning permission for such a scheme will be a formality as these people are devoted to each other.

Anyone could be forgiven for assuming that Senator Ozouf has already succeeded Senator Terry Le Sueur as Chief Minister as he appears to be the spokesman for everything in this Island other than the weather forecast.

One of the main reasons that the development has taken so long is the fact that the whole idea was initiated by the arch-enemy of the Establishment, Senator Stuart Syvret.

The dictatorship who run this Island will continue in their time-honoured style of secrecy and whispering campaigns which is the way of politics everywhere. They will ignore anyone whom they may consider to be a free-thinking radical or indeed who may sing from a separate song sheet.

Deputy Southern’s proposal is too just, sensible and popular to merit any encouragement from these people.
