The 41-year-old, who admitted he has lost count of exactly how many CI titles he has won, beat off competition from Scott Eastwood, Sam George and Mark Durbano for the Open honours.
Gould secured the win in the closing moments of the final, taking off on a nicely walled up right hander and gathering momentum to blast a big re-entry at full speed which threw a huge fan of spray into the air.
Gould said: ‘It was a cracking weekend and good fun and it was nice that there was such good surf. I don’t know exactly how many titles I’ve won to tell you the truth but I know I’ve won a hell of a lot – I think it’s between 13 and 15 and I’ve got no plans to stop, you can’t when you enjoy it this much.’
CI Eurosurf team members Shelly McFarling and Arlene Maltman dominated the women’s competition. Although the experienced Maltman found some nice waves with smooth turns and re-entries it was McFarling who showed more speed to take the win with Esther Lempriere finishing third and Abby Hughes fourth.
