Island squash to adopt and adapt PAR scoring

The Jersey Squash and Racketball Club made the decision last night to adopt the new PAR scoring for the team league, while keeping the traditional scoring method for the individual league.

The move follows the introduction earlier this year by the World Squash Federation of a PAR 11 system for all competitions which allows a player to win a point in any rally, rather than only being able to win points on serve, with the game being won at 11.

However, while the Jersey League has adopted PAR it will be played up to 15, not 11, to give players more court time.

Steve Law, president of the Jersey Squash Rackets Association, who felt strongly that Jersey needed to adopt the system at some level, said: ‘I see this as a positive step in the right direction and hopefully will see a shift in the culture of the players towards PAR scoring.’
