His selection for the Great Britain under-23 team comes about because of his performance in the London Triathlon two weeks ago when he finished in 15th place, overall, in the elite category for men in a time of 1.48.58, four minutes, quicker than last year when he finished 33rd.
‘Potentially this means that I could become part of the GB set-up for triathlon,’ said Halksworth, having been told that his London performance, allied to his other triathlon results this year had propelled him straight into the British team.
‘I’ve been given the chance to prove myself. And despite coming late to triathlon, I genuinely believe I can keep improving. I started off as a swimmer, which gave me the discipline to do the other sports in triathlon, and I need to thank my Kiwi coach Jack Raltson for all he’s done for me so far, but fingers crossed, if I do well for Great Britain you’ll see me again, perhaps competing in the 2012 Olympic Games.
