St Clement Deputy Ian Gorst has been elected as Social Security Minister, winning an election against Deputy Geoff Southern.
Deputy Gorst, who topped the poll in the recent election for Deputy in St Clement, gained 36 votes and Deputy Southern, 16.
Deputy Gorst’s election in the States today followed that of Senators Philip Ozouf as Treasury Minister; Alan Maclean as Economic Development Minister; Freddie Cohen as Environment Minister; Jim Perchard as Health Minister; and Ian Le Marquand as Home Affairs Minister.
All except Senator Perchard were the first choice of Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, who had proposed Senator Routier for the position. He later proposed Senator Routier as Education Minister instead of Deputy James Reed.
The House are sitting today to elect Ministers and chairmen of committees and scrutiny panels.
Senator Le Sueur’s other candidates are St Brelade Constable Mike Jackson for Transport and Technical Services: and Senator Terry Le Main for Housing.
