JERSEY’S preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games have taken another step forward with the appointment of Jean Cross and Andy Hamon to key leadership roles for this summer’s event in Glasgow.

Cross will serve as Chef de Mission for a third consecutive Games, while Hamon steps into the role of General Team Manager for the first time at senior level.

With just three months to go until the Games return to Scotland, officials at the Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey (CGAJ) are continuing their preparations for what is expected to be a squad of up to 21 athletes.

Hamon, who previously held the team manager role at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, said he is relishing the opportunity to step up to the senior stage.

“The Commonwealth Games is such an exciting event for people from all around the world and I’m really happy to be able to play a part for Jersey,” he said.

“Glasgow will be a new experience for us all and we’ve been working hard over the last few months to give our athletes the best platform possible as they get ready to compete against the best in the Commonwealth.”

Cross, who also serves as CGAJ vice-president, brings a wealth of experience having led Jersey teams at both the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Games.

“I am very proud to be Chef de Mission for the third time and leading the team for Glasgow,” she said.

“It has been an unsettling time for all athletes following the withdrawal of Victoria as hosts, and we are very grateful to Glasgow for stepping in to host the Games this summer.

“It will be a different Games across four great venues, but our planning is well advanced and we’re confident that it will be an amazing event for all involved.”

Jersey has been allocated a maximum of 21 ‘open allocation’ athlete places for the Games, with the potential for additional invites in selected sports.

Final team selection is expected to be confirmed next month.
