Seven new Ministers have been elected by the States, with most of the positions going to candidates proposed by Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur.

His only defeat was for the Health Ministry, which went to former Assistant Health Minister Jim Perchard who beat Senator Paul Routier, by 31 votes to 21.

Senator Le Sueur later proposed Senator Routier as Education Minister, but Senator Routier is being challenged by three other Members – Deputy James Reed, Deputy Judy Martin and Deputy Roy Le Hérissier.

The remaining elections, including that for Housing – for which the current Housing Minister, Senator Terry Le Main, is proposed – and those for the heads of committees and scrutiny panels, will take place on Friday.

The Ministers elected today, with number of votes of each candidate, are as follows:

Treasury: Senator Philip Ozouf (38 votes); Deputy Geoff Southern (13).

Economic Development: Senator Alan Maclean (32 votes); Deputy Mike Higgins (20).

Environment: Senator Freddie Cohen who retained his seat unopposed.

Health: Senator Jim Perchard (31 votes); Senator Paul Routier (21).
