MARIANA Agathangelou has managed two out of three wins to help put England level at one match each with Germany in her first senior international campaign.
The deciding match of the series is in Erlangen this evening. The Island badminton star, and her mixed doubles partner Anthony Clark, were England’s only winners on Tuesday night as they went 4-1 down in the opening contest of their three-match series.
Yet England hit back last night and Agathangelou snatched victory in the women’s doubles with her partner Samantha Ward against Carola Bott and Michaela Peiffer 21-11, 21-15, before Clark and Marcus Ellis beat Johannes Schoettler and Kristof Hopp in a tight three-set match to keep the series alive.
Earlier Andrew Smith, England’s top singles player, gained some revenge for his Olympic defeat by Marc Zweibler in a close three-game contest. That levelled the match at 1-1 after Sarah Walker lost the opening women’s singles to Bott.
