JERSEY retained the Enid De Gruchy Trophy after winning the Primary Schools’ inter-insular at Foote’s Lane in Guernsey last weekend.
A 32-strong Jersey under-11 and U12 team reigned supreme after starting off well in the sprints with Jonathon Glendening and Isabelle Bougeard, both U12s, winning their events to give Jersey a clear lead. The visitors continued to pull away to lead 46-34 after winning three of the four hurdles races.
Jersey won by 147 points to 121, a score that reflected the strength of Jersey’s squad. Jersey Primary Schools’ Athletics section secretary Natacha Morgan Pasquali said: ‘We were so lucky to have such a strong team this year across all the events.
‘Everyone gave their best in their disciplines and supported the other members of their team. They were great ambassadors for Jersey and they were a delight to take away. We were also fortunate that many of them could compete in different events.’
