SIX records were claimed by the younger members at the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s annual club championships held at the track at the FB Fields last Sunday.

Jenna Murphy leapt 1.65 metres to take the under-17 women’s high jump record and Shadine Duquemin broke the U15 girls’ shot putt record following a throw of 11.39m.

The remaining four records were all achieved on the running track where Lauren Lowe lowered the U13 girls’ 1500m time to five minutes and 11 seconds and Oliver Terry crossed the finishing line in 2.22.7 in U13 boys’ 800m.

Danielle Leerson continued her fine season to set a new time of 2.21.4 in the U15 girls’ 800m and Pierre Sangan crossed the line in the U9 600m in a new time of 2.01.9.

A total of 135 entrants took part, their ages varying between a three-year-old running in the little brother and sister race to Dave Woodsford, who not only competed in the 5,000 metre race as a 50-plus veteran but also ran the commentary throughout the day.

Many personal best times were achieved across the age groups, Hugo Barette showing his potential by claiming first places in the U15 boys’ 80m hurdles, 100m sprint and high jump.

Molly Jéhan also excelled to gain three firsts – in the 75m hurdles, 200m sprint and the high jump.

The stars in the U9 group were Bali Edan and Pierre Sangan, who both won their respective 60m sprint, 600m and cricket ball throwing competitions.nextpage
