ALEX MOLLIN finished eight up against Elaine Pushman to win the JLGA Island Match Play HSBC Championship final yesterday at La Moye.
Mollin surged to a two shot lead after six holes before play was stopped due to lightning but she reappeared from the interval ever strong and was four up after nine holes. Her progress continued throughout the day and after the first 18 holes Mollin, who was a runner-up last year, boasted a strong lead.
Eager to avoid a repeat of last year’s result in which she finished runner up Mollin, the current Island strokeplay champion, pushed on and won the game on the 11th hole with an eight shot advantage.
‘I was really pleased with the way I played,’ said Mollin. ‘I was in the final last year and got to the semi-finals the year before so I was nervous but as the weeks have gone on I’ve got better every day so I knew I was coming into today playing well.
‘This is my first match play title and I’ve also won the strokeplay title for the last two years so it feels good to get both. The Strokeplay Championship later this year is also at La Moye – I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can retain my title.’
In Division II Liz Shanks defeated Judy Dove while Rachel Andrews beat Julia Pascoe for the Division III title.
